Aurora Studio & Gallery is a supportive art space located in Asheville, North Carolina. The studio offers weekly workshops for artists who have experienced trauma due to mental health needs, homelessness or addiction. Working with Visiting Artists from Western North Carolina, Aurora Studio provides artists with the space and art supplies to explore their personal creativity, which they could not otherwise obtain or afford. The integrative structure and community support provided by Aurora Studio & Gallery enables artists to heal, grow and thrive.

Lori Greenberg, M.Ed, LCAS, Founder, Board Chair

Board Chair, Lori Greenberg, M.Ed, is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, who has been working in the field of human services for over thirty years. Her interest in people started at the age of 14, when she began spending her Saturdays with children with developmental disabilities. Her passion has evolved into supporting people of varying need, including: families and youth at risk; people with HIV/AIDS; persons affected by mental illness, addiction, homelessness and concerns around the environment. While living in Vermont she was an avid volunteer/supporter of the local monthly Gallery Walk, the annual Women’s Film Festival, the HEALS Expressive Arts Loss Support Program, the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont and Brattleboro Community Radio.​Greenberg founded Aurora Studio & Gallery in May of 2012.

Addie Starbird, Intern

Addie is a junior at UNCA preparing to apply to the BFA program at the end of next semester. She is passionate about art and enjoys studying the various ways art impacts society and individuals. She grew up in Maine and when she moved to North Carolina she began focusing all her time on learning all that she could about drawing and sculpting. Addie is ecstatic to have the opportunity to work Aurora Studio & Gallery and see first hand how art can impact the lives of others.

Venea King, Intern

​Hi there! I’m Venea, a psychology student at UNC Asheville graduating in May 2019, with a passion for learning and helping people. I enjoy writing poetry and hiking up the craggy gardens. I am an aspiring therapist, gaining as much experience along the way, and am excited for the work I will me doing with the Aurora Studio & Art Gallery.

Alice Cleary, Intern

Hello, I’m Alice. I am really pleased with the opportunity to combine my passions of art and healing through community in my involvement with Aurora Studio. My artistic interests lay in pottery and dance, and I enjoy experimenting with all mediums of expression. I currently study anthropology at UNCA.

Jackson McMahon, Intern

Jackson McMahon is a student currently attending UNCA who plans to pursue a BFA in Studio Art. When not working on school assignments or personal art projects, he enjoys reading, hiking, producing music, watching films, and skateboarding. He’s had several works exhibited in local Asheville galleries and is excited to join a talented team of interns at the Aurora Studio & Gallery to assist in their mission to positively impact the Asheville area by providing therapeutic creativity and personal growth to those in need. Jackson is thrilled to be working in an artistic environment with such a meaningful purpose and compassionate ideals, and can’t wait to get started.
